Back before our trusty Chandler & Price Platen press was unloaded into the studio with a heavy iron thud, we rescued a puppy from Quebec. We named her Siler, but as a German Shorthaired Pointer, our family endearingly called her by the generic term for any hunting breed – “bird dog”. Later, when we rescued the century old press and put it to work, well, the moniker just rolled off the tongue.

Allison Bozeman wears many aprons as a letterpress pixie / woodtype worshiper / indie ink siren / vintage fabric vixen / event evangelist and owner of BirdDog Press in Lyons. What started as a penchant for pen and paper in the digital age, an obsession with a more tactile, interactive experience grew. Feathered with more than 13 years of design expertise in her cap, Allison began spreading her wings into letterpress printing, non-traditional materials and a handmade eco-friendly approach. BirdDog Press was born when a rescued hunting dog inspired a design + letterpress studio with a trained eye for craftsmanship in place of perfectionism, a love of pattern and perspective and a collaboration of history and modern technology.

Meet Sarah. A southern Louisiana girl, through and through. She joins BirdDog Press bringing many skills to the table including illustration, design and of course letterpress printing. Sarah studied Studio Art at LSU and concentrated in Graphic Design. She moved to Boulder in 2011 after working with our friends at Blackbird Letterpress in Baton Rouge. When she isn't feeding the press or hand lettering an invitation, you'll find her scaling rocks somewhere in the sunshine, while her four-legged friend awaits her on belay.
